An Historic Home Tour

Holiday House Historic Home Tour

Each year HHA will decorate and invite the public to tour a historic, HHA plaqued home to raise money for the new Hudson Heritage Historic Preservation Fund.  The Historic Preservation Fund will be used to further historic preservation efforts in the Hudson community via grants.

2009's Holiday House is The 1833 Judge Van Renssalaer Humphrey House
located at 264 North Main Street.

Judge Van Renssalaer Humphrey House

The Hudson Heritage Association (HHA) is hosting its forth annual Hudson Holiday Home Tour on Friday, November 6 and Saturday, November 7 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., featuring The Judge Van Renssalaer Humphrey House at 264 North Main Street, decorated for the holidays by the region’s finest florists, greenhouses, and designers. Featured merchants will decorate the rooms and grounds of the house for the holidays. Event attendees may order decorations in time for holiday delivery. Proceeds from the event will help to establish the Hudson Heritage Association Historic Preservation Fund which will be used to further historic preservation efforts in the community via grants.

Purchased in 2004 by Ann and Roger Engle, and then beautifully restored, this grand and elegant home was built in 1833. The home was built by well known builder Leander Starr who was building in Hudson between 1830 and 1850. Approximately eight other houses built by Leander Starr exist in Hudson. Judge Humphrey was an important judicial, legislative, and community leader. In addition, Judge Humphrey’s daughter, Stella Conger, married to U.S. Senator Omar Conger, and was a good friend of the founder of the American Red Cross, Clara Barton. Stella Conger was a charter member of the American Red Cross and also helped to lobby Congress to adopt the original Geneva Convention.

General tour tickets for November 6th and 7th cost $10 per person. An HHA members-only preview cocktail party will take place the evening of November 5th. Tickets for the preview party event are limited, and will be $75 per member. Individuals can become members of HHA for annual dues starting from $25. Membership applications are on this web site :
